In the heart of the lavender fields near Aix-en-Provence

The beauty of the lavender fields near Aix-en-Provence and across the Luberon is a sight that stays with you. Every summer, the lavender fields offer a display of striking beauty, where shades of violet awaken the senses. At Franc 1884, we do more than just admire these landscapes, we draw from them the very essence of our craft. From the harvest to our workshop, we transform these blossoms into scented fuseaux (also called lavender wands or spindles), designed to bring a little piece of Provence into your interiors. It is in this dialogue between the earth and the hand that our story is written, year after year.
Nature as our starting point
At Franc 1884, everything begins in the vast lavender fields of Provence, stretching from the Luberon to the Monts de Vaucluse. It is here, on preserved lands where the coolness of the mountain peaks meets the warmth of the Mediterranean, that our flowers bloom without the use of pesticides. We carefully select the high-altitude plots that offer the finest aromatic quality, always ensuring we protect the fragile balance of the ecosystem. Each field tells a different story, and it is this raw authenticity that we strive to preserve, ensuring our creations remain a true reflection of this living terroir.
A precise and respectful harvest
The secret to a long-lasting, natural fragrance lies in the precise timing of the harvest. Just like a fine wine, we gather our flowers at their peak, when the flower calyxes have reached perfect maturity, brimming with their precious aromatic molecules. We work plot by plot, respecting the natural cycles of the land, to capture the very best that our lavender fields in Provence have to offer. This meditative attention to detail and the freshness of the flower, handled shortly after being cut, is what allows our wands to retain their scent and intensity for many years to come.

The soul of our craft, the Lavandin
To create our signature wands, we favor Lavandin also called « true lavender », type Grosso and Super, iconic varieties found in our lavender fields in Provence. Its long, straight, and flexible stems are perfectly suited for manual weaving. A natural hybrid born from the crossbreeding of fine lavender, also known as « true lavender» (Lavandula angustifolia), and spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia), lavandin is a generous plant that diffuses a fragrance blending well-rounded notes with a beautiful, powerful aromatic quality. Crafting these varieties allows us to create decorative pieces that blend beauty with the flower's raw simplicity.
From the earth to your interiors
The journey concludes within our Provençal workshop, where time seems to slow down. Once harvested, the lavender is worked while fresh, then meticulously hand-woven with ribbons crafted in Saint-Étienne, the world capital of ribbons. No industrial process or synthetic fragrance ever alters the purity of the plant, it is a direct artisanal gesture, from the soil to your home.
Owning a Franc 1884 lavender wand is more than just a decorative choice, it is an invitation to welcome a bit of the light, the soul, and the serenity we gather every summer from our lavender fields in Provence.
