Franc 1884 is a French brand promoting the best scent of lavender, founded over 20 years ago in the Luberon in Provence, within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The Franc 1884 adventure is embodied by an old rural object, made using a bouquet of lavender, highlighting its true natural fragrance: the lavender wand.
Its founder, Philippe Franc, comes from a long line of Liquor Distillers: the Franc Distillery, created in 1884. In his childhood, smells were everywhere. He was not allowed to drink, but he could smell, and his olfactory memory was enriched by a hundred exquisite natural scents: mirabelle plum, Williams pear, plum, wild strawberry, banana, cherries, the many grapes, and especially the famous peppermint (from the same family as lavender) with its extreme freshness that made him famous.
Philippe Franc's olfactory legacy pays tribute to his passion for goodness, beauty, and a love of nature. Without lavender, the history of perfumery in France would not exist.
1884 was also a period of great perfumes in France, where natural scents reigned, well before the appearance of synthetic perfumes.
Today, Franc 1884 is the brand that places natural fragrance at the center of its approach. Beauty speaks to everyone; perfume is a universal language.
Franc 1884 is a rare company, which controls 100% of its process: from the idea, design, sourcing, harvesting, manufacturing, research and innovation, to the marketing of the most beautiful bouquets of lavender perfumes from Provence.
Philippe Franc created his company for 3 reasons: to be free, to be fair and to be useful.
Franc 1884 is a craft.
The vision is to put the excellence of Franc 1884's knowledge at the service of natural perfume throughout the world.
Philippe focuses on his dreams, his passion for learning opens new doors in the world of hospitality, haute couture, and even health.
“Smell good, smell healthy” is a staple of the Franc 1884 brand.
Passionate about natural scents since his childhood, long-distance travel and encounters, Philippe Franc has created a unique, multifaceted profession over the years.
His world? Perfume. All his perfumer friends are chemists… not him.
He defines his job as follows:
“I am not a chemist, I am a picker,
I am not a perfumer, I am a carrier of scents.
As a craftsman of life, Philippe Franc has only one obsession: to enhance the most beautiful things in nature and to transmit them with generosity and elegance.
Being a scent carrier is a wonderful approach, it is a meaningful job, a job to be lived with passion.
Philippe Franc began as a long-distance sailor, and his travels transformed his approach to life and his relationship with others. Perfume has no boundaries.
In every perfume country, you're greeted with the best and noblest: sublime scents. Locally, they become "signature" scents.
This gesture of perfume is an ancestral art little practiced in the West, where art and elegance are expressed naturally.
Today, the world of perfume has become a mass industry, based on chemistry and volume, where all means are good to try to create addiction.
In this world of rootless perfumes, there nevertheless exists, in the heart of a wild land, the spontaneous inspiration where poetry is born and the only perfume plant endemic to France is expressed: lavender.
It is sublime, local, and it is the “signature” perfume of France.
The approach to high-quality Franc 1884 Lavender was born and its future is bright.
Franc 1884 connects the best of nature and humans.
Hospitality and welcome are good gestures that we remember throughout our lives.
Franc 1884 perfume bouquets build bridges between people and cultures. It is this act of perfume that pays homage to others, that honors and welcomes, and builds trust.
For a special someone or for your loved ones, when you want to strengthen the bond that unites you, you can embellish it with timeless elegance. It's the ideal gift.
When you offer a lavender wand from Franc 1884, it is first the outer beauty that you offer, then the inner beauty.
Whether baroque, classical or contemporary, art is an infinite game of expression, and at Franc 1884 it is sublimated by the art of perfume...
A simple and pure object, capable of bringing all this together, rare, without being ostentatious.
These objects are bouquets of lavender or natural perfume intended to be offered to those we love, to those we thank, to those we welcome.
Created from fresh lavender stems, they contain the plant's most precious ingredient: its purest fragrance. Ribbons woven around lavender wands, ornament balls, or any other original creation add a decorative touch to the object and help hold the bouquet together while keeping the calyxes intact inside.
This object combines the ribbon with the perfume, delicately wrapped in its case.
It is an exceptional and lasting gift.
It will forever mark your unforgettable moment.
This ancient object is now enhanced by hand, and requires passion, application, dexterity and meticulousness.
There are more than 4 species of lavender in France, 3 of which are perfume species.
There are several hundred varieties of lavender, depending on where they grow. Depending on the terroir, altitude, and variety, the scents are varied, diverse, and sometimes surprising.
For 20 years, Franc 1884 has been exploring the terroirs of three mountains in Provence. Our expertise allows us to harvest by plot, at the right age, at the optimal time, so that the olfactory molecules we harvest are the best.
To create our bouquets, we use several of them: lavender angustifolia, maillette, matherone or even lavandin (which is a natural lavender derived from lavender angustifolia and lavender latifolia ). What matters to us is the fragrance, especially its intensity and longevity!
As with fine wines, lavender and lavandins require the finest terroirs. To ensure high quality, our lavender is grown at high altitude without pesticides in the Luberon, one of the purest ecosystems in the world, classified as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Altitude is crucial because it provides a dose of cold, which then disappears with the Mediterranean heat, allowing the lavender to give its best. To guarantee an exceptional harvest and achieve the best wines and vintages, we have learned to harvest at the best time, respecting nature's timing. A grape cannot be harvested anywhere, at any time. The same goes for lavender.
Our creations are designed and manufactured in France, in Provence, and are sometimes inspired by materials, designs, cultures and knowledge from around the world.
Our Lavenders come 100% from the mountains of Provence.
Our ribbons are 85% made in France, but also in Europe, Japan, the USA... Europe is recognized worldwide for its excellence and quality.
The originality of Franc 1884's know-how is brought together in its MAQ (Quality Assurance Manual) and its workshop is recognized for its expertise.
Each creation reflects our commitment to expert, responsible manufacturing and high-end quality.
We are constantly innovating, we create a new shape to meet a new use, or a new smell for a new destination, and to innovate is to progress.
Franc 1884 prides itself on making a difference through quality craftsmanship and innovation. The signature weave with two ribbon widths creates a unique design. The logo highlights the flawless folding of the stems, and the "ballerina" finishing knot is highly identifiable.
